A few days ago, I blogged about the new grapefruit I bought and thought about how I could make a gin cocktail with it. I tried it last night, and it was a great success!
Here is the recipe:
2 oz Tanqueray gin
¾ oz grapefruit juice
½ simple syrup
¼ oz campari
one egg white
Shake hard with large ice and garnish with angostura.
The result was a light and fluffy cocktail, almost creamy because of the egg white. The campari gave it a deeper finish and prevented the simple syrup and grapefruit from overpowering the cocktail. The grapefruit seemed to accentuate the gin without washing it away. I loved the smell of the angostura at the beginning and how it tasted with the last bits of the drink.

That's pretty damn good! I would have taken it a bit of a different direction, though. What about this:
1oz gin
1oz campari
3/4oz grapefruit
orange bitters
Build everything into a collins glass and top it off with soda water.
It's like a gin ricky and an americano had a baby! Look how cute! For some reason I can only come up with 'I Love Lucy' names for this drink, like 'little ricky,' 'Lucy Ricardo,' or 'babaloo'
Enjoy!
Interesting. I wonder how it would be if it were made into a bastardized cobbler:
Build everything but campari in a collins glass, fill with crushed iced, then add your soda water and finally a campari drizzle.
I shall name it: Cobbler? I barely even know 'er!

This looks divine--with TWO of my favorite cocktail components: grapefruit juice and Campari.
We will pick up a fresh bottle of Campari tomorrow and try this pretty cocktail.
